In the Winter Woods

The following photographs were taken earlier today at Chipp-A-Waters Park in Mt. Pleasant.

Chippewa River from near the canoe landing

Snow on burdock

Ice forming along the edges of the river

Cracks in the ice flow

Snow and ice on a blackberry cane

Boxelder seeds

Inside a fallen ash tree

Miniature forest - Wild Leek seed heads

American Beech leaves will hold on until spring before falling

Deer tracks criss-crossing the forest floor

Dead ash trees litter the forest floor - victims of the Emerald Ash borer

Enormous Eastern Cottonwood - more than 7 feet in diameter

Someday the river will cut across this bend - leaving an abandoned oxbow pond behind
